Get to Know Integrity Church

Integrity Church exists to mature and multiply believers to leave a gospel legacy.

Our History:

Ben Tugwell founded Integrity Church in the summer of 2007 as a Bible Study. In a little over a year, we were a small group committed to being in God’s Word and living out God’s mission. In April 2009, we publicly launched Sunday morning services at Wahl Coates Elementary near ECU. From then on, God graciously grew our church from a handful of people to a growing and thriving church. We also began to launch small group communities called Small Groups that gathered throughout the greater Greenville area.

By 2011, we outgrew our space at Wahl Coates and moved to the Holiday Inn (formerly City Hotel). God continued to establish His church graciously, and we ran out of room again. In 2012, we moved to two services and added more small groups throughout the city to continue to be on mission.

From 2011 to 2015, we became more established in our community, and our demographics shifted. We began to become more of a multi-generational church. We added more Small Groups and more staff to facilitate the growth that we were experiencing. With this continued growth, we needed more space. After much searching, God provided a new location for our church to move toward. In January 2016, we moved to the former location of Unity Freewill Baptist Church (2725 E. 14th St). We shared this location with John Paul II Catholic High School. While we were in this location, we found out about a property for sale in Winterville at 569 Irish Ln. This property fit what we were looking for in terms of a more permanent location. Through the generosity of God’s people, we were able to purchase the 6-acre lot and building at this location. We were so thankful to make 569 Irish Ln our home!

By God’s grace, we have grown and been faithful through the unique facilities He has provided for us. We’ve planted churches, supported missionaries, and faithfully represented the gospel to the City of Greenville and the surrounding area. Our kids and student ministries continue to grow. God is growing His church, and we look forward to what He has in store for our future.

Our Core Beliefs

  1. The Scriptures: The Scriptures, comprising the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament, are true, authoritative, and sufficient for guiding Christian life, practice, and doctrine.

  2. The Trinity: God is one being in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is the Creator and Sustainer of all, whose plans are unchangeable, and who gave His Son for humanity's redemption. The Son, Jesus Christ, is both fully God and fully human, who died as a sacrificial substitute for believers' sins and is the sole mediator between God and man. The Holy Spirit persuades individuals to repent, unites believers with Christ, and dwells within them, guiding the Church in understanding God's Word.

  3. The Depravity of Man: Humanity, except Christ, is inherently sinful and separated from God due to rebellion. Without divine grace, people cannot return to God and live under sin's dominion, facing physical and spiritual death. Salvation is possible only through Christ.

  4. The Gospel: The gospel is the "good news" addressing humanity's most serious problem: God's holiness and justice versus our sinfulness. Jesus' perfect life and sacrificial death reconcile believers to God, offering salvation as a free gift through faith alone. This salvation transforms individuals, declaring them righteous and granting eternal life, liberating them from sin and death.

  5. Sanctification: The Holy Spirit actively sanctifies believers, renewing their minds and conforming them to Christ's image. Despite indwelling sin, the Spirit helps believers grow in knowledge, keep God's commandments, and live in a way that glorifies God.

  6. The Church: The Church, composed of genuine followers of Jesus Christ who have repented and accepted Him as Lord, exists to worship and glorify God and to serve Him by spreading the gospel and planting churches worldwide. New believers should join a local church to engage in worship, teaching, fellowship, and prayer, living out the gospel's implications. Christ has appointed leaders within the Church to guide believers toward maturity and readiness for good works.

  7. The Lord’s Return: The culmination of God's plan includes the return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection and transformation of believers, the judgment of all, and the fulfillment of Christ's kingdom. The unrighteous will face eternal punishment, while the righteous will live and reign with God forever, offering eternal praise and glory.

  8. Divine Sovereignty: God's sovereignty extends over all aspects of reality, with a particular emphasis on salvation. Salvation is grounded in God's grace, mercy, and eternal decree of election, rather than human desires or deeds. While humans are responsible for their sins, God is ultimately responsible for drawing individuals to Himself and granting them the gift of faith.

  9. The New Heart: Before conversion, individuals are in bondage to sin and unable to please God. Upon accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, they receive a new heart and desire, created by the Holy Spirit, to love and please God.

  10. Believer Baptism: Water baptism is for individuals who have accepted Christ's atoning work and become His disciples. It is a symbolic act of obedience to Christ's command, signifying a believer's union with Christ in His death and resurrection, and represents the end of a former way of life and liberation from sin.

  11. Complementarianism: Men and women are equal in essence, dignity, and value but have different, complementary roles and responsibilities in the home and Church by divine design. These distinctions should be protected, preserved, and practiced for God's glory and human joy.

  12. Elder Led Church Government: In the local Church, leadership is divided between elders and deacons. Elders shepherd, teach, and hold final authority, with all elders having equal authority and serving as pastors. Women cannot be elders. Deacons assist elders and serve at their discretion. Both roles must meet scriptural qualifications.

  13. Expositional Preaching: We seek to preach chapter by chapter and verse by verse in order to explore the context and original intent of the Scripture, ensuring that the text drives understanding rather than preconceived ideas. This method allows God's Word to speak for itself, with occasional topical sermons still approached expositionally.

  14. Progressive Revelation: The Old Testament should be interpreted in light of the New Testament, as God's revelation has progressively become clearer, culminating in Jesus Christ. While the Bible is best read from front to back, it is best understood from back to front, allowing the New Testament to clarify and complete the understanding of the Old Testament. This approach ensures a more accurate comprehension of God's plan as revealed throughout Scripture.
